For those unfamiliar with his work, Mitsuda was the primary composer of Chrono Trigger, so his genius will be heard in-game. Mitsuda will contribute to the game's soundtrack adding more of his genius to the game's already promising lineup. Sea of Stars also added Yasunori Mitsuda as part of the development team. Those aren't all the Chrono Trigger references yet. Small bits such as the graphics, the turn-based combat, having no random encounters, and the attacks which are categorized are skills are just some similarities to the aforementioned game. The demo might be a good way to see if Sea of Stars does indeed scratch the Chrono Trigger itch. With the release date, it was mentioned that an official playable demo is also available for download on the Nintendo eShop. With some gameplay footage playing, the art style was highlighted along with the announcement that the game will come out on August 29, 2023. While both titles differ in play style, the setting and the universe are the same thereby sharing some in-game concepts, ideas, and locations. While Sea of Stars plays like a typical turn-based RPG, it is also considered a prequel to the 2008 action-platform game The Messenger, which was also developed by Sabotage Studio. However, due to several delays, the title was moved to 2023. Sea of Stars was announced as early as 2020 and was originally slated to release in June 2022. As part of February 2023's Nintendo Direct, the game was included in a series of announcements regarding updates to several titles. There are still eight days to go before the Sea of Stars Kickstarter ends. However, the developer notes that the DLC is the last of the stretch goals and states that their vision for the project is "now officially whole." Sabotage is hopeful for additional funding that can help against any unexpected development obstacles. The Sea of Stars Kickstarter sits at over $560,000 after starting with an original $94,829 (CA$133,000) goal. "One thing we did want to do as soon as the game launched, however, was to start working on a fully fledged side-adventure DLC called 'Throes of The Watchmaker' demanding multiple months of dev, which would expand even more on the world of Sea of Stars and provide additional insight on the narrative overarching all of our games."Īll backers who have pledged for a copy of Sea of Stars will receive the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC for no extra charge. "Our vision for stretch goals was always clear: we would not overcommit, we would not bloat our game, and we would not cause delays because of them," reads the Kickstarter post. Their crowdfunding effort has been blowing past a number of goals and before developer Sabotage could even reveal what the final stretch goal was, the Sea of Stars Kickstarter surpassed that goal. They also have some great ambitions for the retro-style RPG, ones that they hope to hit with the help of their ongoing Kickstarter. Sea of Stars is a long way from being completed, but the team at Sabotage is already hard at work on it.
